ChiefRay¶

The ChiefRay can be used together with the NumericalAperture to restrict the selected sources. It defines the center of a circle with radius NumericalAperture in the pupil coordinates. This allows to select all illumination directions in the NA around the ChiefRay. It is defined in $\sigma$ -coordinates in the pupil plane (see Plane Wave).

With the notation of the parent section, illumination directions with

$\begin{eqnarray*} \Re \left(\frac{\Vert \pvec{k}_\perp - \pvec{k}_{Chief,\perp}\Vert}{k_0} \right) \leq \mathrm{NA} \end{eqnarray*}$

are selected.

Note

The ChiefRay requires a definition of the NA.
